How to Choose The Perfect Window For Your Home
Byron Nichelson, EXOVATIONS Sales Consultant, 7 years
Byron
came to EXOVATIONS 7 years ago as a golf-loving, experienced remodeler with 10
years' in civil engineering.
Business
Development Director, Candice Skinner, sat down with Byron to try to understand
the process of being in the home with a customer and how they decide on the
perfect window for their home.
Candice: Byron, what do you typically tell folks who come to us looking
to replace their windows?
Byron:
I always start consulting with homeowners by asking a few basic questions like what are the goals or needs for the house? Are they planning on staying there long? I want to gauge their long-term plan. This helps me make a meaningful recommendation to them.
For
example, let's say they have wood windows now, there is some rot but not all of
them are rotten. We can repair the frames, offer sash replacements to cut down
on the expense if the fix is temporary. If they customer says it's their
forever home, we're going to recommend a full unit so they never have to worry
about replacing their windows again.
Once
we figure out their particular situation and their goals, we determine what
color scheme and materials they are interested in. Light windows? Dark windows?
Some window materials do not come in all colors, so that will also affect the
recommendation. It's honestly a progression of important questions to make sure
we are offering each customer exactly what the best fit for their home is.
Part
of the process is to also help the customer establish their budget for the job
and we have many options available that fit any budget. We have it all - from
budget-friendly vinyl to the more expensive aluminum clad and everything in
between.
Windows
are the type of product that a customer usually gets multiple quotes for. I
like to know if they saw someone before having us come out and what products
they liked to help me educate them on so they have ALL the options, not just
what EXOVATIONS has to offer.
First
and foremost, we are there to provide an educational consultation. Our mission
for each appointment is to help the customer think through all the market
options we have, of every product, and how it will best fit their renovation
goals.
Candice: Thanks, Byron!
